Cal Signs Five to Letters of Intent

The California men's soccer team signed five athletes to national letters of intent, announced Wednesday afternoon by head coach Kevin Grimes.
Grimes and his staff signed Eric Ebert, a 6-0 midfielder from Irvine, CA (Woodbridge High School); Andrew Jacobson, a 6-1 attacking midfielder Palo Alto, CA (Gunn High School); Justin Myers, a 6-2 goalkeeper from Del Mar, CA (Torrey Pines High School); Steven Purdy, a 6-3 defender from Morgan Hill, CA (Archbishop Mitty High School) and J.T. Searles, a 6-0, midfielder from Huntington Beach, CA (Marina High School).
Ebert is a three-time All-Sea View selection and a two-time All-CIF pick. As a member of the varsity squad since his freshman year, he helped lead his high school team to three Sea View League Championship titles. His club team, the Irvine Strikers, won three Cal-South State Cup championships, finished runner-up in the 2002 Far West Regionals and won back-to-back Surf Cup titles.
Jacobson led the SCVAL league with 14 goals and seven assists in his senior campaign. He was named the 2002 Gunn High School Offensive Player of the Year after leading the team to the Central Coast Section Division II Championship title. For his efforts, Jacobson was selected as a member of the first team All-SCVAL. Last year, he was a member of the Palo Alto Crew team, which won the Nor-Cal Premier League. As a junior, he was named to the Homestead Christmas Cup All-Tournament team.
Justin 'Moose' Myers, was the starting varsity goalkeeper at Torrey Pines since his freshman season. A three-year captain, Myers was named MVP and All-Palomar League as a senior. He helped lead the squad to the CIF semi-finals in 2000. He was named MVP of his club team, the Surf Soccer Club, helping them to the 2001 Surf Cup title. Myers has been a member of the ODP State team since 1999, including a starting stint in the 1999 Adidas Cup finals, a 2001 Regional Camp Championship and a 2002 Regional Camp invite.
Purdy, is a three-year All-WCAL selection at Archbishop Mitty. He played on the South San Jose Fusion for the past five years, who won the Premier League Championship in 2000 and were semi-finalists in the 2001 state cup. Purdy helped lead the Fusion to win the Gold Division Nomads Tournament in 2001. He has been a member of the 85 State ODP team since 1998, making the 85 Regional team since 1999. In 2002, Purdy has been invited to two U.S. Under-18 National Team camps and the Adidas Elite Soccer Program.
Searles, was named second team All-Sunset League as a sophomore and first team as a junior. In 2002, J.T. was the youngest member of the California Seahorses, a member of the PDL Western Conference, finishing second as a semi-finalist in the National Championships. His club team, the Irvine Strikers, finished second in the CSL Boy's under-19 league, winning the state premier championships. Searles was named to the ODP state pool since 1999 and the state team in 2002. While playing for the Pateadores in 2002, the squad was runner-up in the Cal-South State Cup and landed a third place finish at the Far West Regionals.
