Cal's Schott Drafted by Washington Freedom

Feb. 6, 2003

Cal senior forward Laura Schott was drafted by the Washington Freedom in the fourth round of the 2003 WUSA Draft, held Sunday afternoon in Atlanta, Ga.

Schott, who hails from Wilsonville, Ore., will graduate from Cal as one of the most decorated players in school history. In Cal's 2-0 NCAA first round win over Denver, the two-time All-American tallied her school record 56th career goal. After tying for the team lead with 18 points (7G, 4A) this year, Schott finished her career second all-time in Cal history for points with 128, five points shy of U.S. national team player Joy (Biefeld) Fawcett's school record of 133.

During her senior campaign, Schott was named to the NSCAA third team All-West Region and first team All-Pac-10. Schott looks to be the fourth Golden Bear to play in the WUSA. Other Cal graduates currently competing in the WUSA: Allie Kemp (Boston Breakers), Maite Zabala (Philadelphia Charge) and Joy Fawcett (San Diego Spirit).
