Bruins Fall to No. 2 Gators, 4-3

Madison, Wis. - Despite knocking off Florida's top two singles players, the ninth-ranked UCLA women's tennis team fell to the No. 2 Gators, 4-3 Friday at the USTA/ITA National Team Indoor Championships in Madison, Wis.

Although UCLA lost the one point awarded for doubles play, the Bruins responded when No. 6 Sara Walker posted a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Florida's Lindsay Dawaf to even the match at 1-1. Florida then took the next two singles matches to gain a 3-1 advantage, as No. 24 Julie Scaringe defeated UCLA's Sarah Gregg, 6-2, 6-4, and No. 83 Zerene Reyes defeated Bruin Laura Gordon, 6-2, 7-6(9).

The Bruins cut the lead to 3-2 when No. 84 Jackie Carleton upset ninth-ranked Alexis Gordon, 3-6, 6-4, 6-2 at the No. 2 position. Florida, however, was able to clinch the match at No. 6 singles where Jennifer Magley defeated UCLA's Anya Loncaric 6-2, 6-2. The Bruins' Susi Wild then beat No. 22 Julie Rotondi 3-6, 6-3, 6-4, however Florida had already secured the win.

The Bruins (4-2) will play their third and final match in Madison on Saturday afternoon at 3:30 p.m. (CST) against No. 3 Georgia.
