Men's Swimming Falls At Cal

Senior Erik Vendt and freshman Ous Mellouli each won a pair of races among eight USC wins, but the No. 7 Trojans swimming and diving team still fell at No. 3 California, 160-140, on Friday (Feb. 7).

The Trojans fells to 5-2 overall, 2-1 in the Pacific-10 Conference.

Vendt won both the 200y breast (1:59.91) and the 200y IM (1:48.56, season's best) while Mellouli touched first in both the 200y free (1:38.05) and the 500y free (4:23.91). Mellouli edged Vendt by .01 in the 200y free while Vendt beat Mellouli in the 200y IM by .16.

Junior Trent Staley swam a season best time of 9:17.23 to win the 1000y free. Freshman Mihaly Flaskay won the 100y breast (54.94), senior Jeff Lee won the 200y fly (1:47.71) and Raymond Vincent won the 3-meter springboard (322.0).

Troy finished 1-2-3 in the 500y free with Staley (4:32.93) and Matt Peterson (4:33.44) finishing behind Mellouli.

Cal, however, took the top four spots in the 50y free and the 100y free and won both relays.

USC wraps up its dual meet season when it swims at top-ranked Stanford on Saturday (Feb. 8) at 1 p.m.
