Feb. 7, 2003

TUCSON, Ariz.- Junior Moises Duran's two-run homer in the bottom of the fifth proved to be the game-winner as Arizona rallied from a one-run deficit to defeat No. 10 Baylor 7-4 at Sancet Field on Friday. The victory improved Arizona to 3-1 for the season, while the Bears fell to 0-2.

Trailing 4-3 heading into the bottom of the fifth, freshman Brad Boyer chased Baylor starter Jared Theodorakos with a single to left field to lead off the inning. Reliever Sean White came on in relief and quickly surrendered the tying run on Trevor Crowe's double to left to plate Boyer from first. Duran rewarded Crowe with a trip home with his scorching line drive homer down the left field line on White's hanging breaking ball, giving Arizona a 6-4 lead. The home run was the second of the season for the Wildcat second baseman.

Baylor opened the scoring with a first inning run on a RBI single by Jared Clements to give the Bears a 1-0 lead. Arizona responded with a pair of runs of its own in the bottom of the inning a two-out double by catcher Richard Mercado.

The Bears erased the Arizona lead with two in the third and one in the fifth, before Duran's homer changed the game in favor of the Cats.

Junior Joe Little picked up the victory on the mound for the Wildcats with a solid 6.1 innings of work. The southpaw gave up four runs, three earned, on eight hits. He walked two and struck out one. The victory evened his record to 1-1 for season.

Freshman Kevin Guyette pitched three-hit ball over the final 2.2 innings to pick up his first save in an Arizona uniform. Baylor's White was tagged for the loss, his first of the season.

The Wildcats and Bears meet up again on Saturday for the second game of the three-game tilt. First pitch is slated for 1 p.m.
