Men's Tennis Defeats Loyola Marymount 6-1

Feb. 8, 2003

Tempe, AZ - The Arizona State Men's Tennis Team advanced their record to 2-2 on Saturday at home against the Lions of Loyola Marymount University, with a nearly unanimous 6-1 victory.

The Sun Devils began the day with meticulous play, sweeping all three doubles matches.

LMU's Johannes Asuja and Tigran Martirosyan gave ASU's Chris and Clinton Letcher a tough match, but in the end the Lions were no match for the Letcher duo, who won 9-7.

The Devils' success carried over to singles play with ASU winning five of the six singles matches.

In one of the final matches of the day Ryan Eveloff and Carlos Malet-Faura carried on a grueling match, which at times seemed to favor the LMU Lion, Malet-Faura.

With determination and skill, though, Eveloff dug in and defeated Malet-Faura 6-2, 4-6, 7-6(3), securing yet another match for the Sun Devils.

The Sun Devils remain undefeated by the LMU Lions with a 2-0 all-time record.

Next up, the Devils continue their season at home with the 3-1 Utah Utes, scheduled for Monday February 10 at 1:30 p.m., at the Whiteman Tennis Center in Tempe.
