Trojans Topple UNLV, 98-73

LAS VEGAS (AP) - Desmon Farmer scored 22 points to lead USC past UNLV 98-73,as the Trojans took advantage of 34 Rebels turnovers Sunday afternoon.

Also for USC (10-9), Derrick Craven scored 17 points, and Errick Cravenadded 15 points and six steals. They were among five USC players scored indouble digits. Jerry Dupree scored 13 points, and Roydell Smiley added 12.

USC outscored UNLV in points off turnovers 42 to 17.

The Trojans were 38-of-74 in field-goal attempts. For UNLV (13-7), whichshot 27-of-43 in field-goal attempts, Jermaine Lewis led with 14 points. DalronJohnson added 13, and Demetrius Hunter added 12.

This was the most turnovers in a game, according to UNLV records dating backto 1992. The previous high was 27, at New Mexico State University Jan. 16,1995.

UNLV jumped to a 15-6 lead with 15:38 left before the Trojans responded witha 19-7 run to take the lead at 25-22 with 9:45 until halftime. UNLV laterretook the lead briefly at 26-25, but USC regained the advantage 27-26 for goodon a Farmer layup with 8:28 left in the half.

That basket started a 17-4 run giving the Trojans a 44-30 lead with 1:57until halftime. The Trojans led 45-33 at halftime. The Rebels committed 17turnovers in the first half.

UNLV never made a run in the second half, and USC eventually built two28-point leads in the final two minutes of the game.
