Cal's Wethers Named Pac-10 Basketball Player Of the Week

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - CALIFORNIA senior guard Brian Wethers has been named the Pacific-10 Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week for February 3 - February 9, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.

Wethers, from Murietta, Calif., averaged 18 points, five rebounds , four assists, and 3.5 steals per game, all while shooting 70% from the floor (14-20) in a road sweep of the Oregon schools. Against Oregon State, Wethers poured in 15 points, including 13 in the second half and had a team-high 6 assists which tied his career high. Versus Oregon, he shot 9-of-11 from the field, including a 2-for-3 performance from three-point land, on his way to a season-best 21 points. Wethers also matched a career-high with 2 blocks and ripped off a personal-best five steals.

California (16-4, 9-2 in Pac-10) earned road victories at Oregon State, 84-17 and Oregon , 86-75 last week. Up next, it hosts Washington State and Washington.

It is the first weekly award for Wethers, the 31st all-time honor for the Golden Bears.
