Feb. 10, 2003

HOLOLULU - The No. 6 Washington softball team (6-0) used a pair of home runs to defeat Oklahoma State, 3-2, Sunday to win the Chevron Paradise Classic.

A two-run blast by Jaime Clark (Tustin, Calif.) scored Rita Roach (Norwalk, Calif.) to give Washington the 2-0 lead in the first inning. Roach reached base on a hit by a pitch.

The Cowgirls cut the lead to one in the third inning on four Husky errors and pulled even at 2-2 in the fourth off of a leadoff home run by Brooke Siebel.

Washington went ahead again in the sixth inning on a solo home run by Kristen Rivera (Perris, Calif.).

UW hurler Tia Bollinger (Santa Ana, Calif.) put the game away, getting OSU out in order in the sixth and seventh innings to preserve the victory and tournament title. Bollinger tossed a one-hitter, while striking out 11.

Washington had four players named to the all-tournament team including third baseman Kathy Fiske, outfielder Roach, Most Outstanding Player Rivera and Most Outstanding Pitcher Ashley Boek.

The Huskies return to action next week when they travel to Arizona to compete in the Pepsi Classic.
