Women's Golf 17th After First Round of Northrup Grumman Regional Challenge

PALOS VERDES, Calif. - The Arizona State women's golf team opened the spring season with a 39-over 323 to stand at 17th after the first round of the Northrup Grumman Regional Challenge, being held Monday-Wednesday, Feb. 10-12 at the par 71, 5,912-yard Palos Verdes Golf Club in Palos Verdes, Calif.

Pepperdine leads the tournament after the first round, shooting an even par 284 on Monday, followed by UCLA (292), Oklahoma State (294), USC (296) and Oklahoma (300). The Sun Devils are 17th and stand 10 strokes out of the top 15 after the first round.

Freshman Alissa Kuczka turned in the best round of the day for the Sun Devils with a five-over 76 and is tied for 28th after the first day of play. Sophomore Erin Tone is tied for 67th after a first-round 81, while sophomore Josefin Gustafsson is tied for 74th at 11-over 82. Senior Blair O'Neal (84) and freshman Meredith Jones (88) round out the Sun Devil lineup and are tied for 84th and 92nd, respectively, after the first round of play.

Individually, UCLA's Charlotte Mayorkas leads the field after carding a three-under 68 on Monday.

The second round of the Northrup Grumman Regional Challenge gets underway at 9 a.m. Pacific Standard Time (10 a.m. Mountain) on Tuesday, while Wednesday's final round will begin with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. Pacific (9:30 a.m. Mountain).
