Trojan Footballers Headline USC Athletes To Compete At L.A. Indoor Invitational

Los Angeles - USC football stars and former California state prep track championsDarrell Rideaux and Marcell Allmond lead a strong contingent of Trojanathletes in the 43rd annual Los Angeles Invitational indoor track meet,Saturday, February 15, at the Los Angeles Sports Arena.
Rideaux will compete against Olympic gold medalist Jon Drummond inthe men's 55-meter dash. Rideaux, who has never lost an indoor dash race,won the 1999 California state 100 title at Long Beach Poly.
Other Trojans entered in the 55 meters (4 heats): Miguel Fletcher,Phillip Francis, Justin Tolliver, Gary Jones, and Andre Serrete.
Allmond, who won the state 110-hurdles title and set a nationaljunior decathlon record while at St. Paul High in Santa Fe Springs, will bematched against fellow Trojans Ryan Wilson (a two-time All-American) and JeffGarrison in the 55-meter hurdles.
David Grijalva and Jeff Ryan are the two Trojans competing in thepole vault, where four 19-footers are entered (Russ Buller, Toby Stevenson,Dean Starkey and Kurt Hanna).
On the women's side, the Trojan group include sprinters AlexisWitherspoon, Tiffany Bennett and Tracee Thomas (all 55 meters), hurdlerGinnie Powell, vaulters Melissa Astete and Megan White, and high jumperSpring Harris.
Two former Trojan greats are also entered in the meet: AngelaWilliams, the only sprinter ever to win four straight NCAA 100 meterstitles, heads the entries in the women's 55. Tatyana Obukohova, a formerPac-10 champion and NCAA medalist in the triple jump will also compete.
