Stanford Set For Busy Weekend

THIS WEEK: The seventh-ranked Stanford men's tennis team will play three home matches in four days over President's Day Weekend ...Stanford, which is 1-1 after a 5-2 home win over TCU last Saturday, will take on No. 71 UC Irvine (5-2) on Friday at 1:30 p.m., No. 61 Fresno State (3-2) on Saturday at 12:00 p.m. and No. 33 San Diego State (1-1) on Monday at 1:30 p.m. ... This is the Cardinal's second of four home weekends at the Taube Tennis Center ... Stanford will host USC and UCLA on April 4-5 and Arizona State and Arizona on April 11-12.
A LOOK AHEAD: Stanford travels to Louisville, Kentucky next Thursday-Sunday to defend its title at the USTA/ITA National Team Indoor Championship ... The Cardinal's first match in the 16-team event will be against host Kentucky on Thursday ... Stanford has won 12 National Team Indoor Championships --- the most of any school ... The Cardinal has won three of the last five and five of the last nine ... No team other than Stanford or UCLA has claimed the National Team Indoor Championship since 1989.
CARDINAL NOTES: The Stanford men's tennis program, which began intercollegiate play in 1926, picked up the 992nd win in program history last Saturday vs. TCU and is now just eight shy of the prestigious 1,000 mark ... Stanford has been well-represented at this week's ATP Siebel Open in San Jose. Seven past or present Stanford players competed in either qualifying or main draw competition --- Bob Bryan, Mike Bryan, Paul Goldstein, Ryan Haviland, K.J. Hippensteel, Scott Humphries and Jim Thomas ... Freshmen KC Corkery and James Pade have emerged as one of the top young doubles teams in the nation. Corkery and Pade have moved all the way up to ninth in the national rankings after winning nine of their first 11 matches and capturing the double title at the Omni Hotels Regional Championship in October.
