Bruins Make It Two Against Pepperdine

Malibu, CA - The No. 9 UCLA women's tennis team took the second of two meetings this year with local rival Pepperdine (5-2), winning 4-3 at the Ralphs-Straus Tennis Center in Malibu. With wins by Susi Wild, Sarah Gregg, and Anya Loncaric, the Bruins (5-3) were able to overcome the defeats of its two nationally-ranked players, No. 6 Sara Walker and No. 84 Jackie Carleton. Lauren Fisher saw her first action of the year after being sidelined with an injury, teaming with Walker for a doubles match.
The Bruins took an early lead with a 2-1 doubles win over the Waves. Gregg and Wild defeated 52nd-ranked Charlotte Vernaz and Veronica Koksova 8-6, while Carleton and Laura Gordon beat the Waves' Karin Schlapbach and Anna Andersson 8-5. On court two, Pepperdine's Natalie Braverman and Merve Asimgil beat Walker and Fisher 8-4.
Wild built on the successful weekend she had at USTA/ITA National Team Indoors, defeating Monika Horvath 6-3, 4-0 (ret.). Gregg beat No. 52 Koksova 6-4, 3-6, 6-4, and Loncaric knocked off Andersson 6-2, 2-6, 6-2, securing the win for UCLA.
Pepperdine won on courts one, two, and five. Braverman defeated Walker 7-6(4), 6-4, while No. 91 Vernaz beat Carleton 2-6, 6-2, 7-6(6), and Asimgil beat Gordon 6-3, 6-1.
UCLA's next match is on Tuesday, February 18 at 1:30 at the Los Angeles Tennis Center against the No. 17 Fresno State Bulldogs.
