Feb. 14, 2003

EUGENE - The No. 69 Oregon men's tennis team will take on No. 75 Boise State at the Student Tennis Center, Saturday at noon. The Ducks (4-1, 0-0) are looking to extend their current winning streak to four matches, while the Broncos (2-4) are hoping to stop a losing streak of three matches.

Oregon moved up three more spots in the team rankings this week to a season high of No. 69. The Ducks have defeated No. 72 BYU, New Mexico State and Portland in their last three matches to inch up the rankings.

Freshmen Thomas Bieri and Arron Spencer are still undefeated in singles play in dual matches. Bieri has played at No. 3 and No. 4 this season, while Spencer has competed at No. 5. The Ducks have a record of 23-7 in singles play in the dual matches.

The Broncos are led by Marcus Berntson and Guillaume Bouvier, who form the No. 42-ranked doubles team in the country. Berntson has been playing at No. 1 singles so far this year, but Bouvier is ranked No. 86 in the singles rankings. Thomas Schoeck has yet to lose a match for Boise State in dual action, playing at the No. 2 and 3 positions.

Oregon will remain home the following weekend to play Pacific and UC Santa Barbara. Both head coach Chris Russell and assistant coach Ross Duncan are graduates of UC Santa Barbara.
