USC Women Earn 64-56 Victory Over Arizona State

LOS ANGELES -- Junior guard Rometra Craig contributed agame-high 17 points as the USC women's basketball team defeated ArizonaState 64-56 on Friday night at the Sports Arena. The win marks theprogram's 500th all-time victory (488-272).
The Women of Troy have now won their last six-of-seven games toeven their record at 12-12 overall, while improving to 7-6 in the Pac-10(their first winning mark in conference play this season). The SunDevils fall to 14-9 overall and 6-8 in the Pac-10.
Craig and sophomore forward Rachel Woodward, who added 14points, were the only two to finish in double figures for the Trojans.Junior Ebony Hoffman led with nine rebounds. Arizona State was led byguard Carrie Buckner, who finished with 12 points, and forward AmyDenson, who posted a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds.
The Women of Troy had 16 turnovers in the game, but forced ASUto commit 25 of their own. USC shot 41.4 percent (24-58) from the fieldand 50.0 percent (3-6) from three-point range, while the Sun Devilstallied a 47.2 percentage (25-53) from the field and 9.1 percentage(1-11) from outside the arch.
After a lackluster first-half performance, the Women of Troyknotted the score within the first minute of the second half, 21-21, andbegan to hit their stride. The two teams paced each other until the15-minute mark when the Trojans embarked on a 24-13 run that would putthem up by 11 (53-42) with 8:20 remaining. Arizona State managed to cutthe lead to one, 57-56 at 3:17, with a 14-4 run of their own, but theSun Devils would come no closer. USC made five-of-six free throws downthe stretch to secure the 64-56 victory.
Arizona State led 21-19 at the half.
The Women of Troy return to action this Sunday, Feb. 16, whenthey face No. 24 Arizona at 2 p.m. at the Sports Arena.
