BOULDER - After securing the doubles point and taking a 1-0 lead, the Colorado women's tennis team came up short in the singles competition, falling to No. 54 Oklahoma State, 5-2 in the Big 12 opener for both schools Saturday evening at the Millennium Hotel.
The Cowgirls remained undefeated (3-0, 1-0 Big 12), while Colorado falls to 4-2 overall and 0-1 in the Big 12.
Seniors Lia Dimingo and Dominique Lemperle took their No. 1 doubles position in a tough 8-6 match, while the other CU doubles teams of junior Morgan Sall and sophomore Kendra Strandemo were victorious at No. 2, 8-4 and senior Sarah Burrows and freshman Jessica Vanderdys teamed up for an 8-4 win at No. 3.
In singles, Strandemo was the lone CU player to claim victory taking the No. 5 singles slot in straight-sets, 6-2, 6-1, while Lemperle lost her first singles match of the spring, dropping a pair of tie-breakers in her No. 1 singles match to Linda Faltynkova, 7-6 (3), 7-6 (4).
Colorado returns to action on Saturday, Feb. 22 when it hosts Wisconsin at the Boulder Country Club beginning at 6 p.m.
