No. 7 Stanford Beats Fresno State for Third Consecutive Win

STANFORD, Calif. - Seventh ranked Stanford won its third consecutive match of the 2003 season as it defeated visiting Fresno State 6-1 at the Taube Tennis Center. After losing its season opener, the Cardinal has rebounded to win its last three matches. Fresno State dropped to 3-2.
Stanford (3-1) was led by senior Ryan Haviland, who beat the Bulldog's Hector Almada 7-5, 6-3 at No. 1 singles, then teammed with sophomore Sam Warburg at No. 2 doubles for an 8-3 win. Warburg also won his singles match, 6-2, 6-4 over FSU's Marc Schaerer.
Freshmen KC Corkery and James Pade, who won their match at No. 3 doubles, were also victorious in their singles matches. Corkery won at No. 3 singles in straight sets, 6-2, 6-0, while Pade, playing No. 4 singles, also scored a straight set win.
Because of the possibilty of inclement weather in the Bay Area, the singles matches were played before the doubles competition.
Stanford returns to action on Monday, February 17 with a 1:30 pm match vs. San Diego State at the Taube Tennis Center.
