Stanford Defeats San Diego State

STANFORD, Calif. - The seventh-ranked Stanford men's tennis team defeated 33rd-ranked San Diego State 6-1 on Monday afternoon at the Taube Tennis Center to record its third home win in four days. The Cardinal (4-1) defeated 71st-ranked UC Irvine 7-0 on Friday and 61st-ranked Fresno State 6-1 on Saturday.

Stanford will next try to defend its title at the USTA/ITA National Men's Team indoor Championship on Thursday-Sunday in Louisville, Kentucky. The Cardinal opens the 16-team event against 11th-ranked Kentucky on Thursday at 1:00 p.m. (PT).

The Cardinal knocked off fellow National Team Indoor invitee San Diego State by winning five of the six singles matches and two of the three doubles matches.

Freshman James Pade, who is from nearby Woodside, California and The Menlo School, remained unbeaten in dual action with a pair of wins on Monday. Pade improved to 5-0 in dual singles matches with a 6-1, 7-6 victory over Armando Carrascosa in the No. 5 slot. He also improved to 4-0 in doubles as he teamed with fellow freshman KC Corkery (Manhattan Beach, CA) to post an 8-2 win over Carrascosa and Felix Hardt in the No. 2 position.
