Rafer Johnson - Jackie Joyner-Kersee Invitational April 4-5

Entry Form
Information Packet in PDF Format

Welcome! It is with great pleasure that we prepare to host a major meet in honor of two of track and field's greatest champions: Rafer Johnson and Jackie Joyner-Kersee. An NCAA champion while here at UCLA, Rafer attained everlasting fame with his stirring victory over fellow Bruin C.K. Yang in the 1960 Olympic Games in Rome. Jackie, a two-sport star at UCLA in basketball and track, won a silver medal in the heptathlon in the 1984 Olympic Games and then went on to win gold in the 1988 and 1992 Olympic heptathlons as well as three Olympic long jump medals and numerous world records, setting the standard for all future heptathletes.

The meet format is simple, with mostly preliminaries on Friday and an all-finals format on Saturday. Our goal is to provide an enjoyable competition for both collegiate and opencompetitors of a high caliber in the standard events. We invite your participation and lookforward to seeing you at Drake Stadium in April.

Meet Format

Invitations to compete will be based on entries received. The top athletes (usually six in each event) entered in each event, except the Steeplechase, 5000 m and 10,000 m, will be automatically advanced to the final of each event to be held on Saturday. The Steeple and 5,000 m will be held in sections with the top 20 entrants in the Steeple and top 35 entrants in the 5,000 m running on Saturday morning and the next 20 (Steeple) or 35 (5,000 m) running on Friday morning. All entrants in the 10,000 meter races will compete in the single race held for each gender on Friday.

A fee for each entry of $10 is required. An entry is into a single event, so the fee for an athlete who competes in the 100 and 200 meters would be $20 in total. For relays, a single fee of $10 per team is required. Checks for entry fees should be made out to the 'Regents of the University of California' and are due on either the day before the meet (April 3) or on the day of the qualifying rounds (April 4). Checks may be dropped off at the Information Desk inside the field-level entry to Drake Stadium (off Bruin Walk) on either day.

Entries may be received as early as desired, but the deadline for receipt of entries will be on Friday, March 14, 2003 (two weeks prior to the meet).

Entry Forms and Competitor Information packets are available in PDF format in the 'Rafer Johnson - Jackie Joyner-Kersee Invitational' information box, located under the 'Fast Facts' box on the UCLA men's and women's track sites.
