Huskies Upset By Oregon State

CORVALLIS, Ore. (AP) - Hollye Chapman scored 22 points and had nine reboundsas Oregon State beat No. 23 Washington 100-86 Thursday night.

Jessica Jones had 20 points and Michelle Smith had 19 for the Beavers. Bothwere career-highs.

Guiliana Mendiola led Washington (19-6, 11-5 Pac-10) with 28 points. LoreePayne had 20 of her 22 points in the second half. Kellie Dalan added 14.

With the win, the Beavers (13-11, 7-8) made up for an 82-56 loss toWashington on Jan. 25 in Seattle.

The Beavers led by as many 26 points in the first half and took a 52-30 leadinto the break.

The 52 points were more than the Beavers had scored in seven games thisseason.

The Beavers scored 10 of the first 13 times down the floor and shot 20-of-30(67 percent) in the first half. They were 5-of-6 on 3-pointers.

Washington came out much stronger in the second half, shooting 53 percentfrom the field. Payne hit three consecutive 3-pointers for the Huskies, butSmith's 3-pointer at 14:33 kept the lead at 67-49. Mendiola and Payne hitback-to-back 3-pointers to cut the lead to 81-68 at 4:49.

Mendiola took over, hitting two free throws and then an 18-footer at 1:23 tomake it 88-82. But the Beavers hit 13-of-16 free throws down the stretch topull away.

The Beavers shot 59 percent for the game. The Huskies shot 48 percent.
