Feb. 22, 2003
HOUSTON, Tex. - The 25th-ranked University of Oregon softball team returned to tournament action Saturday afternoon, defeating Texas Tech 1-0 at the Houston Invitational in Houston, Tex. The Ducks improve to 10-4 overall this season and Texas Tech drops to 7-13.
It was Oregon's first game of the tournament after its first two games were cancelled Friday due to heavy rains. The Ducks play host Houston immediately following their Texas Tech win.
Oregon freshman Breanne Sabol singled to shortstop in the bottom of the third inning and later scored on a Texas Tech throwing error to give the Ducks the early 1-0 lead. The run ended up being all Oregon needed as the defense held the Red Raiders scoreless through seven innings. Oregon junior pitcher Anissa Meashintubby (Monroe) picked up the win and improved to 2-1 overall this season while freshman Amy Harris got her third save of the season.
Sabol led Oregon offensively, finishing 1-for-2 with the lone run scored while senior Amber Hutchison was 1-for-3 accounting for Oregon's only other hit.
