Feb 22, 2003

BOULDER - The Colorado women's tennis team rallied from a 3-1 deficit to win three consecutive singles matches to upset No. 32 Wisconsin, 4-3, Saturday evening at the Boulder Country Club Tennis Courts.

With the win, the Buffaloes improve to 5-2 heading into their second Big 12 match at Missouri this Saturday, March 1. The Badgers lost their second straight match falling to 4-5.

Wisconsin backed up its No. 32 national ranking during the doubles competition sweeping CU for a 1-0 lead heading into the singles portion. The Badgers quickly increased its margin to 3-1 taking two of the first three singles matches with the exception of No. 1 singles as CU senior Dominique Lemperle answered with a straight-set victory over Linde Mues 6-4, 6-3 for her 14th win this season.

CU, ranked No. 53 by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, saved its best play in the end with three straight wins at the No. 4, No. 5, and No. 6 slots. Sophomore Kendra Strandemo and junior Morgan Sall each improved to 12-7 on the season with straight set wins at the No. 4 and No. 6 singles positions. Strandemo took 6-2, 7-6 win, while Sall won 6-2, 6-4. Freshman Jessica Vanderdys clinched the match at No. 5 singles with a three-set triumph over Lara Vojnov, 6-4, 6-7, 6-2. Vanderdys evened her spring record at 3-3.

"It was great team effort," said Colorado head coach Nicole Kenneally. "It was a long match because we played on only three courts and were down 3-1. We took advantage of the opportunities and swept the four through six positions. Overall, it was a great victory for us."
