Wildcats Wallop Western Michigan

TUCSON - Arizona made the most of eight hits and had solid pitching fromLeslie Wolfe and Wendy Allen to lead the No. 2-ranked Wildcats to a 10-0victory over Western Michigan in Saturday night action at UA's WorthWildcat Invitational softball tournament.

UA picked up a couple of runs in the first without a hit. Broncos pitcherWendy Cannon walked the bases loaded, then threw a wild pitch allowingCourtney Fossatti to score, and Jackie Coburn lofted a sacrifice fly for asecond run to make it 2-0.

Autumn Champion walked with one out in the second and after a second outLovie Jung tripled to left-center and Mackenzie Vandergeest doubled toright to make it 4-0.

The Cats' Champion made a good throw on a base hit by Jaymie Voss in theWMU third to end a rally with an 8-1-5-2-6 relay play by picking off baserunner Gina Dobbs after she rounded third.

Coburn smacked a three-run home run after Jung drew a walk and reachedthird when Vandergeest's fielder's choice was mishandled by the secondbaseman to push the lead to 7-0 i the bottom of the fourth. Afterpinch-hitter Erin Palomarez drew a walk and WMU pulled Cannon, LishaRibellia tripled to right-center to make it 8-0. Allyson Von Liechtensteinhit an infield single and an out later Courtney Fossatti drove in Ribelliaand Jung singled in Von Liechtenstein for the final runs.

Wolfe pitched three scoreless innings and struck out four, with threehits. Allen earned the victory with two innings of relief, walking one andstriking out five.
