Cardinal Up Against Pepperdine Before Rain Stops Play

Stanford, Calif. - The fifth-ranked Stanford women's tennis team started with singles play in anticipation of rain against No. 33 Pepperdine on Monday afternoon, but could only get to the first set before the match was called to due the wet weather at the Taube Family Tennis Stadium.

The Cardinal got two victories from forfeits by the Waves at the last two singles spots to go up 2-0. Lauren Barnikow (Woodbridge, NJ) won the first set 6-1 over Charlotte Vernaz at the second position, marking the only group to complete a set.

Amber Liu (La Mesa, CA) and Alice Barnes (Cambridge, UK) were both up 4-3 at No. 1 and No. 3, respectively. Story Tweedie-Yates (Redmond, WA), playing the fourth spot, held a 5-2 lead over Pepperdine's Anna Andersson before the match was called.

Stanford, still 5-1 overall, will host Pacific on Thursday, Feb. 27 at the Taube Family Tennis Stadium. Match time is set for 1:30 p.m.
