Cougar Tennis Hosts BYU, Washington

THIS WEEK: The No 44 Washington State women's tennis hosts two ranked teams this weekend. The No. 61 BYU Cougars come to town Friday (Feb. 28) and the No. 20 Washington Huskies will take on WSU Sunday (March 2). Both matches will be played indoors at the LCSC tennis center in Lewiston, Idaho.

THE SERIES: Washington State has won both of its previous meetings against BYU, including a 4-3 victory over then No. 52 BYU last season (March 4). WSU has struggled against Washington, winning just six of 31 matches against the Huskies.

HOT COUGS: Washington State has won five of its last six matches. The Cougars defeated Penn State (Feb. 1), Hawaii (Feb. 7), Long Beach State (Feb. 8), No .65 New Mexico (Feb. 15) and No. 58 Boise State (Feb. 16) before losing to No. 39 Oregon (Feb. 23).

TOUGH SCHEDULE: WSU has 13 more matches scheduled this season, and all but one (San Diego- March 9) will be against teams ranked in the ITA's National Rankings.

COUGARS IN THE RANKINGS: The Cougars are anchored by junior Lorena Arias, ranked No. 77 by the ITA. Arias joins with doubles teammate Chris Martinez to form the No. 45 doubles team in the nation.

NEXT WEEK: The Cougars next competition will be in sunny California as WSU will take on No. 27 San Diego State (Saturday March 8) and the University of San Diego (Sunday March 9). Both matches will start at noon.
