Tone, Women's Golf Lead Wildcat Invitational after Monday's First Round

TUCSON, Ariz. - The Arizona State women's golf team carded a season-best 290 Monday to lead the 2003 Wildcat Invitational after the first round of play at the par 71, 6,238-yard Arizona National Golf Club at Sabino Springs.
ASU sophomore Erin Tone leads the field after carding a career-best and three-under par 68 on Monday, while a total of five Sun Devils rank in the top 30 individually after the first round. Tone, who bested her previous career low by five strokes, holds a one-stroke lead over Arizona's Erica Blasberg (69), who is the nation's top-ranked player in the latest Golfweek rankings.
At six-over par 290, the Sun Devils hold a four-stroke lead over second-place Pepperdine which shot a 10-over 294 on Monday. Vanderbilt and tournament host Arizona are tied for third after carding 297's in the first round, while UCLA is fifth at 299.
For ASU, in addition to Tone, freshman Alissa Kuczka is tied for sixth after matching her career-best round with a one-over 72, while senior Blair O'Neal and sophomore Josefin Gustafsson, who is playing as an individual, are tied for 15th with three-over 74's on Monday. Senior Gaï¿½lle Truet is tied for 28th after carding a five-over 76. Junior Lisa Desimone, who is also playing as an individual, is tied for 57th after shooting an 80 on Monday, while sophomore Jamie Michaud is tied for 64th with an 81.
The Wildcat Invitational continues on Tuesday and Wednesday with play beginning with a shotgun start at 7:30 a.m. Mountain Standard Time each day.
