Stanford Topples Utah, 7-0

STANFORD, Calif. - The seventh-ranked Stanford men's tennis team improved to 7-2 on the season with a 7-0 win over visiting Utah (4-5) on Tuesday afternoon at the Taube Tennis Center. The win was the 998th in the history of the Stanford men's tennis program.

Stanford dominated from start to finish on Tuesday, losing just eight games in the three doubles matches and winning all six singles matches in straight sets.

In the No. 1 singles match, 46th-ranked Scott Lipsky (Merrick, NY) won his fifth dual match in six tries with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Roeland Brateanu. In addition, redshirt junior Carter Morris (Washington, D.C.) and sophomore Phil Sheng (Thousand Oaks, CA) each earned their first dual singles victories of the season.

In doubles, third-ranked Lipsky and David Martin (Tulsa, OK) improved to 12-4 on the season with an 8-3 win over Brateanu and Nick Coutts at No. 1.

The Cardinal returns to action this weekend when it travels to the Pacific Coast Men's Doubles Championship on Friday-Sunday in La Jolla, California. The Cardinal will enter four teams in the prestigious event. Stanford's next home match is Wednesday, March 5 against 29th-ranked Tulane at 1:30 p.m. at the Taube Tennis Center.
