Wildcats Dominate No. 9 Stanford

TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) - Point guard Dee-Dee Wheeler and center Shawntinice Polkcombined for 49 points and 15 rebounds to lead No. 24 Arizona to a 79-64victory over No. 9 Stanford on Thursday night.

Wheeler finished with 26 points and four rebounds while Polk had 23 pointsand 11 rebounds.

Arizona (19-7, 12-5 Pac-10) dominated from the outset, jumping out to a28-14 lead as Polk scored 12 points in the first 10 minutes. Arizona had a37-24 lead at halftime.

Stanford (22-4, 14-3) used a 6-0 spurt in the first two minutes of thesecond half to get back in the game.

But Stanford's star forward Nicole Powell aggravated a left ankle injurywith 17 minutes left, allowing Arizona to stretch their lead above 10.

It would remain that way for nearly the entire second half. Arizona madenine of 10 free throws in the final two minutes to seal the win.

Powell had 18 points and 10 rebounds for Stanford.
