FULLERTON, CALIF. - The No. 17 Oregon State softball squad knocked off No. 24 Minnesota, 6-2, on Saturday night in the CSUF Worth Tournament.

The Beavers improved to 3-1 in tourney play with the victory.

OSU broke the game open in the second inning after Cara Maxey belted an RBI triple that scored Steph Adams who reached base on a hit by pitch. The Beavers added three more runs in the inning after Brynnen Guthrie blasted a three-run homer over the center field fence.

'It was a great game offensively and we played extremely well,' head coach Kirk Walker said. 'We continued to drive the ball well and step up to the plate and swing against quality pitching.'

The Gophers (10-3-1) rallied in the fourth inning, scoring their only two runs of the game. Hailee Nanchee reached base on a fielder's choice and later moved to third after Shelly Nichols single and an error. Nanchee scored on a wild pitch by Amy Klever and Nichols reached home on a single up the middle by catcher Amy Thul. Dena DuBois relieved Klever and struck out the Gophers' next batter to end the rally.

Klever earned her third win of the season, bringing her record to a perfect 3-0. DuBois relieved Klever in the fourth and held the Gophers scoreless to close out the contest.

'Amy Klever and Dena DuBois did a great job today, they combined for most our innings in both wins,' Walker said. 'Amy came out and through three straight innings very well in the win.'

DuBois picked up her first victory of the season and Klever earned the save in OSU's 5-4 victory against Purdue on Saturday afternoon.

The Beavers added to their lead with a run in the fourth inning and a run in the fifth.

Guthrie finished the game 1-for-3 with two runs scored and three RBI. Kelly Petersen was 2-for-4 from the plate.

With the win OSU improved its overall record to 16-6 on the season and 4-3 against teams ranked in the Top-25.

'This was a very good win over a very solid team,' Walker said.
