Cougars Overtake Canadian Under-19 National Team

March 1, 2003

EUGENE, Ore. --- The Washington State soccer team opened its 2003 spring schedule by overcoming an early one-goal deficit and defeating the Canadian Under-19 National Team Saturday.

The Cougars got on the board in the 39th minute when midfielder Nicole Wilcox crossed the ball from the right side to Carmen Anderson, who converted to tie the match.

Midway through the second stanza, Wilcox got involved again, this time setting up fellow senior senior-to-be Kim Morgan for the game-winning goal.

'We had a couple of chances to score some more goals. We had some balls hit the post and then they had a flurry at the end of the game where we cleared some balls,' WSU Head Coach Dan Tobias said. 'The Canadians are a very good team and this was a good way to start off our spring match schedule.'

WSU's next event is April 5 at the Nike World Tournament in Beaverton, Ore.
