Pac-10 Softball Player/Pitcher Of The Week

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - WASHINGTON sophomore Kristen Rivera has been named the Pacific-10 Conference Softball Player of the Week, and Husky junior hurler Tia Bollinger has been named Pitcher of the Week for February 24 -March 2, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.
Rivera, from Perris, Calif., hit .571 (8-for-14) with a double, four home runs and 12 RBI in five games at the Cal State Fullerton Worth Invitational. Against Purdue, Rivera hit three home runs in three at-bats to set a new Washington record. She scored three runs against the Boilermakers and notched five RBI. She was also 2-for-3 against both Pacific and Northwestern, with two runs scored and six RBI combined. She also drew two walks over the weekend, without a strikeout. Defensively, she was perfect, throwing out the only runner who attempted to steal.
Bollinger, from Santa Ana, Calif., went 3-0 over the weekend, giving up just 10 hits total versus No. 20 Ohio State, Northwestern and Purdue. She shut out Northwestern and allowed no earned runs in four innings of work against Purdue. Her only earned run of the tournament came against the Buckeyes, and she maintained a team-low 0.44 ERA. Bollinger rung up 14 strikeouts in 16 innings pitched, limited Ohio State to three hits and Purdue to only two.
The No. 4-ranked Huskies (17-0-1) went 5-0 over the weekend at the CS Fullerton Worth Invitational.
It is the second weekly award for Rivera, the third honor for Bollinger. The Huskies have garnered 50 weekly honors all-time.
