Pac-10 Notes: ARIZONA jumped into the national rankings this week with a season debut at No. 21 in Collegiate Baseball's latest poll ... ARIZONA STATE, STANFORD and USC remained in one or more polls for the second consecutive week ... After suffering a 13-2 defeat at the hands of UCLA last weekend, defending national champion Texas, will host the Wildcats in a three game series in Austin ... CALIFORNIA and STANFORD, USC and UCLA, along with WASHINGTON and WASHINGTON STATE will give a preview of what's to come as they take on their traditional rivals in non-conference action ... OREGON STATE, coming off a 2-2 finish at the Clash of the Conferences last weekend, will host Nevada at Goss Stadium this weekend ... With a blazing hot 24-1 overall record, the Sun Devils will play in the Bob Schaefer Memorial Tournament against the likes of Southern Utah, Utah and Cal State Northridge.

ARIZONA (11-5, 0-0)After posting two wins over No. 24 Texas A&M at home over the weekend, the Wildcats broke into the national polls for the first time this season with a debut at No. 21 in Collegiate Baseball's latest poll ... Arizona will take on defending national champion Texas, in Austin beginning March 7 ... Sophomore first baseman Pat Reilly led all Wildcat players with a .500 batting average (6 for 12) in the three games ... He finished with three doubles, a triple, a .917 slugging percentage, four runs scored and a pair of RBI ... In the process of helping Arizona win the series against the Aggies, Reilly extended his team-high hitting streak to 21 straight games.

ARIZONA STATE (24-1, 0-0)The fourth-ranked Sun Devils are at home for games against CSUN, Utah and Southern Utah ... Arizona State improved to 24-1 to set the school record for the best start to the season... Sunday's victory eclipsed the 23-1 start of the 1972 squad that eventually finished the year 64-6... the Sun Devils have now won 15 straight games and finished the month of February 13-0... ASU's last loss came in the series opener on Jan. 31 to nationally ranked Long Beach State... ASU has scored in double-digits in seven straight games and 14 overall in 2003... Saturday's 12-1 win was the 800th all-time at Packard Stadium dating back to 1974.

CALIFORNIA (11-5, 0-0)The Bears had time to rest the weary last week as their series with Oklahoma State was cancelled ... They will take on traditional rival, Stanford in non-conference action this weekend ... At the plate, the Bears feature juniors Conor Jackson, Brian Horwitz and Chris Grossman ... Preseason All-American Jackson is leading Cal with a .423 average and hit a home run Feb. 14 against Texas-Pan American in his first at-bat after spraining his right ankle Jan. 31 versus UNLV ... Horwitz is batting .358 with a team-leading five home runs and 23 RBI, and has two game-winning RBI ... Grossman is hitting .340 and had the game-winning home run Feb. 7 versus Loyola Marymount.

OREGON STATE (7-7, 0-0)The Beavers came away from the Clash of the Conferences Tournament with a 2-2 record and will take on unranked Nevada this week ... At the tourney, it was as though they'd put a new rule in place for the tournament - first team to 10 wins ... In all four of OSU's games, the winner scored 10 runs; OSU beat Cal State-Northridge 10-6 and San Diego State 10-6, then fell to Cal State-Northridge 10-8 and to San Diego 10-9 in 10 innings ... Junior outfielder Seth Pietsch batted .526 (10-for-19) with 4 doubles, 2 homers, 4 RBIs and 8 runs on the weekend.

STANFORD (11-7, 0-0)After losing the series opener 13-4 to USC, the Cardinal bounced back for two straight wins by 16 runs combined ... Stanford has moved up two spots to No. 7 in the latest Baseball America poll ... The Cardinal has now won three straight series versus Fresno State, Texas and USC, after having previously dropped back-to-back series against Cal State Fullerton and Florida State ... Stanford has won eight of its last 10 games overall, including a recent season-high six game win streak (2/14 - 2/22) which was capped with a doubleheader sweep at defending College World Series champion Texas on February 22.

UCLA (10-10, 0-0)The Bruins evened their record at 10-10 as they took two of three in last weekend's Cal State Fullerton Tournament ... After crushing defending national champion Texas, 13-2 and 21st-ranked Tulane, 12-2, the Bruins fell short of capturing the Kia Baseball Bash title with 7-1 loss at the hands of second-ranked Cal State Fullerton ... Wes Whisler, who was the only player in the tournament with two home runs took home Co-Outstanding Player of the Week honors after hitting .417 with four RBI and five runs scored over the weekend ... Mike Kunes picked up his third win of the season after lasting seven innings and allowing two runs on six hits to the sixth-ranked Longhorns ... He also struck out five batters on the day.

USC (7-8, 0-0)The Trojans lost two of three against Stanford in non-conference play over the weekend ... Southern California will take on its LA counterpart, UCLA beginning March 7 ... USC is ranked No. 18 in the latest Baseball America poll and No. 20 by USA Today Sports Weekly/ESPN ... Senior centerfielder Travis McAndrews is quietly putting together a strong season for the Trojans ... He leads the team in batting with a .373 (22-for-59) average with two home runs and 10 RBI ... He has a team-high 10-game hitting streak, going 17-for-40 (.425) during that time ... On Feb. 9 vs. Long Beach State, McAndrews went 2-for-5 with a double, home run and three RBI.

WASHINGTON (6-6, 0-0)The Huskies will take on WSU this weekend in non-conference action in Seattle ... UW has won three of its last five games, including a 21-10 offensive explosion over Cal State Northridge on March 1 ... Washington trailed by four runs in both of its wins last weekend ... The Huskies fell behind Cal State Northridge 4-0 and 9-5 before winning, 21-10 ... Sunday, Washington trailed 5-1 and won, 8-5 ... The team posted 23 hits in the win over CSUN, the day after being held to only three hits by the University of San Diego.

WASHINGTON STATE (3-10, 0-0)Washington State picked up two wins last weekend against Portland and Lewis-Clark State College in the annual Banana Belt Tournanent in Lewiston, Idaho ... The Cougars improved their overall record to 3-10 on the season ... They will take on Washington in non-conference action this weekend in Seattle ... Washington State is 220-162 all-time against Washington ... WSU ranks sixth in the Pac-10 in fielding percentage, with a .959 clip ... They have only committed 20 errors while amassing 321 putouts and 151 assists.
