Wildcat Women Remain at No. 6 in latest CSCAA Poll For Third Straight Week

March 5, 2003

TUCSON, Ariz. - The University of Arizona men's swimming and diving squad ascended three spots to No.16 in the latest College Swim Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) poll, released on Feb. 27. The Wildcat women remain as the sixth-ranked team in the poll for the third straight week.

The Wildcat men are coming off their first and only dual meet of the year on Feb. 15 against Arizona State. The 'Cats were able to overcome a twenty point deficit with only two events remaining on the way to a 150-149 victory. Arizona's previous position at No. 19 was their lowest ranking of the season, but they had been as high as tenth earlier in the 2002-03 campaign.

Arizona's women continued to occupy the sixth position for the third consecutive poll, their highest such ranking of this season. In total, the Arizona women have defeated five teams currently ranked in the Top 25, including Pac-10 foes California, Stanford, UCLA and Arizona State.

The Stanford men and Auburn women both retained the top spots in their respective polls. Arizona's men fell to Stanford in Tucson in January, 160-64. Arizona's women did not swim against Auburn during the regular season, but will undoubtedly see the Tigers at the NCAA Championships later in March.

The No. 16 Arizona men's swimmers return to action this weekend as they travel to Long Beach, Calif. for the 2003 Pac-10 Championships.
