UCLA Men Compete At Last Chance Indoor T & F Meet in Seattle This Weekend

Art Venegas' UCLA men's track & field team this weekend (March 7-8) in Seattle, WA will compete in a last chance indoor meet at the Dempsey Indoor facility at the University of Washington.

It is one of eight 'last chance' meets held this weekend throughout the U. S. as collegiate athletes try to improve or establish qualifying marks for the upcoming 2003 NCAA Indoor T & F Championships, held March 14-15 in Fayetteville, AR and hosted by the University of Arkansas.

Bruin Men
The UCLA men this week are ranked No. 19 by Trackwire. The Bruin men will send eight athletes to Seattle.
On the track:

  • junior Nick Thornton, with an indoor mark of 1:50.28 in the 800m.
  • sophomore Ben Aragon, with indoor marks of 4:06.42 in the mile and 8:30.29 in the 3000m.
  • sophomore Erik Emilsson, with indoor marks of 4:10.41 in the mile and 8:16.48 in the 3000m.

    In the field:

  • sophomore Yoo Kim, in the pole vault (17-4.50, NCAA provisional qualifier).
  • junior Pat Luke, in the pole vault (16-10.75).
  • freshman Jeremy Silverman, with indoor marks of 59-0 (NCAA provisional) in the shot put and 54-4.75 in the 35lb. weight throw.
  • freshman Jake Knight, with an indoor mark of 57-9.75 in the shot put.
  • senior Jack Clamon, with an indoor mark of 56-10.75 in the shot put.

    UCLA's next home outdoor meet at Drake Stadium is the two-day (April 4-5) Rafer Johnson/Jackie Joyner Kersee Invitational.
