No. 9 Beavers Win Shanico/Days Inn-vitational With 197.050

March 7, 2003

CORVALLIS, Ore. - Oregon State gymnasts claimed first place on all four events as well as the all-around as the No. 9 Beavers posted a season-high 197.050 to win the annual Shanico/Days Inn-vitational. No. 13 Denver finished second with a 194.150, and Seattle Pacific was third with a 190.625.

With the wins, the Beavers finished a perfect 6-0 at Gill Coliseum this year for OSU's first undefeated home record since 1998.

Tanya Ricioli finished with four individual victories, posting career-highs in three of them. She won her fourth all-around title of the year with a career-high 39.575, and she posted a career-high 9.95 to win beam for the third time this year. She matched her personal best of 9.925 on floor for her third win on that event, and she added a 9.90 on bars for another win.

Angela Morales won the vault title for the second time, this time scoring a 9.875, and Elizabeth Jillson capped out her home career with a 9.90 on bars to tie Ricioli for first. It was Jillson's final routine in Gill Coliseum, and she pulled through after another Beaver had fallen on bars earlier in the rotation.

'Liz fought really hard on her shaposh and really reached and caught it. It was nice to see her do that, because the last two meets where we had falls before her, she's struggled. Tonight, she came through and passed with flying colors,' said coach Tanya Chaplin. 'This was a great meet for her to do that, and it was a great way for her to go out in her final meet at home on senior night.'

OSU opened the meet on vault, and the Beavers ended up taking five of the top six spots for the meet. Morales led the way with her 9.875, her second-best score of the year. Meghan Jones had a career-high of 9.85 to place second just a week after missing the event at Washington because of an ankle injury, and Lindsay Nelson tied Denver's Michelle Kasuga for third place with a 9.825. Ricioli's 9.80 was fifth, and Heather Justus had a 9.775 for sixth. The Beavers didn't have to count Daylee Ingalls' eighth-place 9.725, and Thrse Videan exhibitioned and scored a 9.85, which would have been a season-high if it had been official.

Ricioli and Jillson led OSU's bars team to a 49.250 in the second rotation, with the duo tying Kasuga for first place. Nelson and Jones tied for fourth with a pair of 9.825 scores, and Videan added a 9.80. Chrissy Lamun fought to save a missed handstand but slid off the low bar for a 9.325, but the Beavers didn't need to count her routine.

OSU's biggest bright spot of the night came on beam, where the Beavers turned in a season-high 49.350 a week after struggling at Washington, where they had a 48.800. The Beavers still had one fall tonight, but they didn't have to count a score lower than 9.80 and turned in the top five scores of the night. Ricioli's 9.95 was good for the win, and Lamun placed second with a 9.90. Nelson added her second-best score of the year with a 9.875, Morales tied her career-high of 9.825, and Elaine Yoder finished with a 9.80. Heidi Goehring came up with a 9.90 on an exhibition routine, which would have been a career-high for her. Daylee Ingalls scored a 9.275.

'We focused on being aggressive on that event this week and told them to put everything they had out there. We were a much better beam team tonight, and we can build on that on the road next week as well,' Chaplin said.

The Beavers also took the top four spots on floor, with Ricioli's 9.925 leading the way. Morales and Lamun shared the second spot with a 9.875 routines, and Thrse Videan had a season-high 9.85 to place fourth. Nelson added a 9.80 to help the Beavers to a 49.325.
