Stanford Picks Up All-Time Win No. 1,000

TUCSON, Ariz. - The sixth ranked Stanford men's tennis team reached 1,000 all time victories Friday defeating the 50th ranked Arizona Wildcats in Tucson. The Cardinal improved to an impressive 9-2 record. Arizona dropped to 5-5.
The Cardinal is now 1,000-320-4 since official records began being kept in 1926, with 741 of those wins coming under current head coach Dick Gould.
The Cardinal reached the millenial mark in all-time victories with a dominant performance in both singles and doubles play. Stanford's highest ranked player, 19th-ranked David Martin (Tulsa, OK) defeated Arizona's Carl Hagman in straight sets 6-2, 6-2. Sam Warburg (Sacramento, CA), ranked 42nd in the country, edged out Paul Warkentin in a second set tie break to complete a straight set victory, 6-3, 7-6.
The men's tennis team looks to extend its win streak to five on Saturday March 8th at 11:00 p.m. in Tempe versus Arizona State.
