Claire Sua Homers as Bruins Down Host Bulldogs

FRESNO, CA - A three-run home run by Claire Sua was the offensive highlight of UCLA's win over host Fresno State on Sunday afternoon at Bulldog Diamond. With the win, the Bruins improve to 26-5 on the season and complete their tournament schedule for the 2003 season. Fresno State falls to 5-12 with the loss.

The Bruins manufactured their first run of the game in the bottom of the first inning, as Natasha Watley walked, stole second and came home on an RBI single by Tairia Mims. Three more runs came in on a Claire Sua home run to left field, her sixth of the year. Tha homer scored Andrea Duran, who had reached on an error, and Watley, who had reached on an infield hit.

UCLA's fifth run scored in the fifth inning, as Natasha Watley led off with a single down the left field line, stole both second and third base during the at-bat of Caitlin Benyi, and scored on a sacrifice fly by Tairia Mims.

That was all the offense Keira Goerl would need, as she struck out five batters xxxxx, improving her record to 18-2 on the season.

UCLA will not play again for two weeks, as UCLA is on an academic quarters system and NCAA rules prohibit regular season play during a school's scheduled final exams. The Bruins will return to competition on Tuesday, March 25, at Cal State Fullerton with a 5 pm doubleheader.
