UCLA Women Record Three NCAA Qualifying Marks at Last Chance Meet

Jeanette Bolden's UCLA women's track & field squad last weekend (March 7-8) recorded three NCAA automatic qualifying marks at a last chance meet in Seattle, WA. The Bruins' qualified athletes will compete this weekend (March 14-15) at the 2003 NCAA Indoor T & F Championships, held in Fayetteville, AR and hosted by the University of Arkansas.
Last Chance Meet/UCLA Women
The Bruin women recorded three NCAA automatic qualifying marks - junior Lena Nilsson with winning marks in both the 800m/mile and UCLA's 4 X 400m relay. Nilsson had times of 2:04.67 (No. 2 on the current NCAA indoor chart) in the 800m and 4:33.41 (No. 1 on the current NCAA indoor chart) in the mile. At last year's NCAA Indoor, Nilsson ran on UCLA's winning distance medley relay and placed second in the mile.
The Bruins' 4 X 400m relay (junior Sani Roseby, junior Sheena Johnson, junior Adia McKinnon and sophomore Monique Henderson) won with a time of 3:35.06 (No. 8 on current NCAA indoor chart). At last season's NCAA Indoor, the Bruin relay placed fifth.
Also improving their marks this weekend in Seattle for the Bruin women were - in the 60m hurdles, Johnson (winning in 8.20, NCAA provisional, No. 11 on current NCAA indoor chart) and Roseby (second in 8.24, NCAA provisional, No. 17 on current NCAA indoor chart) and sophomore Valerie Flores in the 5000m (winning in 17:07.20).
Other Bruins listed on the current NCAA indoor charts are, on the track - Henderson in the 200m (8thT, 23.49, NCAA automatic); senior Tiffany Burgess in the 800m (5th, 2:05.28, NCAA automatic); sophomore Alejandra Barrientos in the mile (44th, 4:46.53, NCAA provisional); Nilsson in the 3000m (6th, 9:13.55, NCAA automatic); freshman Dawn Harper in the 60m hurdles (33rd, 8.41, NCAA provisional) and UCLA's distance medley relay (Nilsson, Henderson, Burgess, Barrientos/2nd, 11:07.18, NCAA automatic).
In the field - junior Julie Stevenson in the high jump (23rd, 5-10, NCAA provisional); in the pole vault, sophomore Jamie Kolar (13thT, 13-3.50, NCAA provisional), freshman Chelsea Johnson (13thT, 13-3.50, NCAA provisional) and junior Gail Larsen (24thT, 12-11.50, NCAA provisional); sophomore Candice Baucham in the triple jump (27th, 42-2.75, NCAA provisional); in the shot put, junior Jessica Cosby, the defending NCAA Outdoor Champion (8th, 54-8, NCAA automatic) and sophomoreBriona Reynolds (25th, 51-7.75, NCAA provisional) and in the 20lb. weight throw, junior Cari Soong (13th, 64-2.25, NCAA provisional).
