Erin Belger Posts NCAA Provisional Mark at Last Chance Meet

March 11, 2003

The University of California men's and women's indoor track and field teams had three competitors participate in last chance meets Saturday. On the men's side, senior Ahmad Wright and sophomore Toby Atawo competed at Boise State's last chance meet, while Erin Belger competed for the women at Washington's last chance meet.

In Boise, Wright finished second in the 200-meter dash with a season-best time of 21.33. Atawo finished right behind him in third place in 21.57.

In Seattle, Belger posted an NCAA provisional qualifying time in the 800m run at 2:07.90. That time marks her fastest of the season. Belger has now completed her eligibility for the Bears and finishes her career as one of Cal's most accomplished middle distance runners. An All-American, Belger finished third in the 800m at the 2002 NCAA Outdoor Championships and clocked Cal's second-best time ever in the 800m with a time of 2:04.39.

The Golden Bears now look forward to the outdoor season, as they host Boise State and Azusa Pacific in a triangular meet Mar. 21-22. The hammer throw is the only event slated for Friday while Saturday will feature all other track and field events.
