Six Cougars to Compete at NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships

FAYETTEVILLE DESTINATION FOR SIX COUGARS: Six Cougars will represent WSU at the NCAA Div. I Men's and Women's Indoor Track & Field Championships Friday and Saturday, March 14-15, at the Randal Tyson Track Center at the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville...Whitney Evans, a redshirt senior high jumper, is making her fourth appearance at the indoor meet...Kurtiss Dilley, a junior transfer and JC All-American high jumper, will make his first NCAA appearance...the women's 4x400m relay team of Tiffany Giles, Monique Jessie, Angelita Green and Ellannee Richardson ran a school record time of 3:36.08 last Saturday in Seattle and reached NCAA Provisional Qualifying status and a trip Fayetteville after a narrow miss in 2002....ESPN2 will air the delayed broadcast Monday, March 17, at 10:30 a.m. PT

UW NCAA QUALIFYING AND MCDONALD'S LAST CHANCE MEET HIGHLIGHTS: At Seattle, the WSU women's 4x400m relay team of Tiffany Giles (Seattle), Monique Jessie (Compton, Calif.), Angelita Green (Long Beach, Calif.), and Ellannee Richardson (Gladstone, Ore.) finished second to UCLA's NCAA AQ time of 3:35.06 but clocked in with an NCAA PQ and school record time of 3:36.08, improving their time from last week by over four seconds. They erased the school record time of 3:37.54 set last year in Seattle by Giles, Tamara Gulley, Randi Smith and Richardson. Saturday at the McDonald's Last Chance Meet at the Kibbie Dome, senior Bennie Chatman finished second to Idaho's Nikela Ndebele with a personal record and NCAA PQ time of 6.71 seconds. Ndebele bettered his NCAA PQ time to 6.70. Twenty Cougars improved personal best marks at the small two-day meet. WSU women winning events at the Moscow meet included Tamara Gulley (60m hurdles, 9.01), Karla McGee (pole vault, 3.66m/12-0), and Blessing Ufodiama, triple jump, 12.24m/40-2). Cougar men claiming victories included James McSwain (200m, 22.11), Kurtiss Dilley (high jump, 2.10m/6-10 3/4), Tim Gehring (shot put, 17.59m/57-8 1/2), and Sam Lightbody (discus, 48.16m/158-0). Rick Collins and Tyson Byers finished one-two in the pole vault with identical heights of 5.15.m/16-6 3/4.
