Bruin Alumni Women's T & F Update

Two Bruin greats, led by hurdler Gail Devers, will compete for Team USA this weekend (March 14-16) at the 2003 IAAF World Indoor T & F Championships at Birmingham, England. They qualified for the upcoming World Indoor Championships two weeks ago at the USA Indoor meet (placing in the top two of an individual event).

At the USA Indoor in Boston on Feb. 28-March 2, Devers won (7.85) the 60m hurdles and broke her own American record, with a world-leading mark of 7.74 in qualifying (her old record was 7.78/Feb. 7 at the Millrose Games in New York City).

Also qualifying for the World Indoor meet are Bruin greats:

  • high jumper Amy Acuff, who placed second at the USA Indoor (6-4.25).

  • shot putter Seilala Sua, who was also second at the USA Indoor (58-6) but elected to not make the trip.
