No. 22 Softball Home At Last; Plays Pac-10 Opener

COMING UPPac-10 Season Opener; Home at LastWith the preseason tournament schedule behind them, Oregon plays at home for the first time, hosting Portland State in a doubleheader Thursday at 1 p.m. at Howe Field. Saturday, the Ducks open Pac-10 play in Corvallis vs. in-state rival Oregon State at 1 p.m.
ESPN.COM/USA SOFTBALL COLLEGIATE TOP 25 The Amateur Softball Association (ASA) released the first-ever ESPN.com/USA Softball Collegiate Top 25 poll on Feb. 25. Oregon debuted at No. 22 and remains in the 22nd spot this week. All eight Pac-10 teams are ranked, including co-No.1 UCLA and Arizona.
NFCA Top 25 Oregon broke into the NFCA Top 25 at No. 25 on Jan. 29. This week, the Ducks moved up one spot to No. 22. Oregon had not been ranked in the NFCA Poll since March 8, 2001. All eight Pac-10 teams are ranked in the NFCA Poll, led by No. 1 UCLA and No. 2 Arizona.
NIST RECAP The Ducks finished in second place at the NIST in San Jose, Calif. Oregon defeated No. 24 Minnesota, Santa Clara, San Jose State and Georgia Tech to reach the championship game vs. No. 6 California. The Bears won, 6-0, behind 13 hits. Oregon sophomore pitcher Lindsey Kontra improved to 6-0 this season with two wins over the weekend while Amy Harris had 12 strikeouts on the weekend.
KONTRA NAMED TO NIST ALL-TOURNAMENT TEAM Pitcher Lindsey Kontra was named to the all-tournament team at the NIST. Kontra had nine strikeouts and two runs allowed in nine innings pitched. The Valencia, Calif., native was 2-0 with wins over No. 24 Minnesota and Sanata Clara. Kontra is now 6-0 this season.
BOSKOVICH NAMED TO ALL-TOURNAMENT TEAM Oregon freshman Beth Boskovich was named to the Campbell/Cartier Classic All-Tournament team two weeks ago. Boskovich (Camarillo, Calif.) was 5-for-12 (.417) with three RBI and two runs scored. Boskovich hit her first home run of the season, a two-run shot over the left field fence against Northridge.
