UA Track & Field Completes NCAA Indoor Championships

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - The University of Arizona's men 's and women's track and field teams completed competition at the 2003 NCAA Indoor Championships with Amy Linnen in the women's pole vault and Sean Shields in the men's shot put.
Shields placed sixth in his second appearance in the NCAA Indoor Championships. His throw of 63 feet, 2 ï¿½ inches (19.27m) helped him improve upon last year's 13th place finish, while also scoring the only points for the Wildcat men at this year's meet. The Wildcats finished with three points. Shields earned all-America honors for his top eight finish among competing Americans.
Linnen, the defending NCAA indoor pole vault champion, placed sixth at this year's meet with a vault of 13 feet, 7 ï¿½ inches (4.15m). She earned all-America honors for the second consecutive year. Linnen, the NCAA indoor collegiate record holder, scored the only three points for the UA women.
The Wildcats will now focus on the outdoor season, which continues with the first of four home meets at the Willie Williams Classic on March 21-22 at the Roy P. Drachman Stadium.
