March 18, 2003
Walnut Creek, Calif. - Cal's sophomore sensation My-Lan Dodd has been named Pac-10 Gymnast of the Week for March 9-15, announced March 18 by the Pacific-10 Conference. The Seattle, Washington product leads the Bears in every individual category this season, and owns the top all-around score of all-time at Cal.
Dodd, in her second year with the team, currently holds the Cal-record score in the all-around (39.675), set this season at Arizona State (2/28). Along with her individual record score, she has also helped lead the Bears in an historic season that includes a No. 17 national ranking and three team record scores on the vault (49.375), beam (49.175) and all-around (196.475).
The super-sophomore currently owns a spot in the Top 5 of every individual category at Cal all-time. In addition to her school-record all-around showing last week, Dodd owns a tie for first place all-time on the vault (9.95) and third place on the bars (9.925), beam (9.9) and floor (9.9).
The California women's gymnastics team (12-4, 2-4) defeated UC Davis for the third time this year, this past weekend, winning every event. Dodd has been the catalyst for the turnaround of the Bears' program in 2003 helping the team rebound from a 5-9 record last season to a 12-4 mark heading into the final meet of the year. On Friday against the Aggies, Dodd continued her brilliance by easily winning the individual all-around (39.475), first on bars (9.875), shared first place on beam with a 9.850, and tied for second on vault (9.850) and floor (9.900).
Dodd and the Bears tackle San Jose State in the final regular season meet of the season Friday, March 21 at 7:00 p.m. in Spartan Gym.
