NOGALES, Ariz.- The Arizona baseball team extended its winning streak to 18-straight games over New Mexico with a 5-3 victory against the Lobos at War Memorial Stadium in Nogales, Ariz., on Tuesday. The victory was Arizona sixth straight win and improved its record to 18-7 for the season. The loss dropped the Lobos to 16-8 for the year.
Junior Brian Anderson extended his hitting streak to a team-season-high 24 straight games with a 2 for 4 night at the plate, including an RBI double in the first and his team-leading seventh home run of the season in the sixth. Anderson is now only one game shy of tying Ernie Durazo for the Arizona single season consecutive games with a hit record.
Junior Richie Gardner dominated the Lobo bats in his second start back from a stress fracture in his right foot. The right-hander picked up his fifth win of the season with seven innings of work, striking out a career-high 12 with just two walks. Senior Brian Pemble came on in the final two innings to close out the two-run victory for his first save of the season.
The Wildcats and Lobos will close out the two game series on Wednesday at 3 p.m. at Frank Sancet Field.
