SEATTLE. - The 2003 Women's NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships begin today in Auburn, Ala., and will run through Mar. 22. Four Husky women will compete at the national meet including senior Kim Harada (San Lorenzo, Calif.), junior Melody Staubitz (Mesa, Ariz.), sophomore Annette Vayo (Placentia, Calif.) and freshman Sharon Olson (Weaverville, Calif,). With a NCAA automatic qualifying time of 1:31.65 in the 200 freestyle relay, the women have earned the No. 12 seed at the championship and the right to swim in any other relay event in which they posted a NCAA consideration time standard. All totaled, the Husky women will swim in four relays, including the 200, 400 and 800 freestyle relays and the 200 medley relay.

Harada, a 2002 NCAA participant, will also swim three individual races for UW after posting NCAA automatic qualifying times in the 50, 100 and 200 freestyle events. Harada, who owns the school records in each, is seeded fourth in the 100 freestyle (49.15) and eighth in the 50 (22.69) and 200 freestyle (1:46.87) events.

Olson, who set the school record in the 500 freestyle at the Pac-10 Championships with a time of 4:52.61, has qualified to swim the race at the NCAA's as the 56th seed.

Staubitz and Vayo will not swim any individual events.

Below is the schedule of events in which the Huskies will participate. Preliminary races begin at 11 a.m. (CT) and finals begin at 7 p.m.
