Huskies Blank UC Irvine, 2-0, For 11th Straight Win

IRVINE, Calif. - Senior starter Sean White and junior reliever Brian Carter combined for a four-hit shutoutas the Washington baseball team extended its winning streak to 11 games with a 2-0 winover UC Irvine Friday night at Anteater Ballpark. The game also marked the Huskies' thirdconsecutive shutout and stretched their scoreless innings streak to 29.

The winning streak ties for the longest under 11th-year head coach Ken Knutson and is thelongest in school history against all Division I opposition. Husky pitchers have allowedopponents to score in only one of the last 40 innings they've pitched.

White (3-3), who lost his first three decisions this season, earned his third consecutivevictory. Last Friday vs. Cal State Northridge, the righty from Mercer Island took a perfectgame into the seventh inning before allowing a baserunner. Against UCI, he didn'tsurrender a hit until Chris Klemm blooped a one-out single in the fourth.

White threw seven innings, allowing four hits and one walk while striking out seven.Carter, a lefty from Woodinville, worked the final two innings to record his fourth save.

Washington (15-6) got a lead with a pair of runs in the second. Junior Chad Boudon ledoff with a triple and Taylor Johnson was hit by a pitch to put runners at first and third.Catcher Aaron Hathaway followed with a hit-and-run single to drive in Boudon and, aftertwo outs, shortstop Tila Reynolds sent home Johnson with a single to right.

UCI starter Glenn Swanson (1-3) pitched very well in the loss, giving up all four of thehits he allowed in the second inning, retiring 21 in a row from the third through ninthinnings. The sophomore lefty struck out eight and didn't walk a batter in a complete-gameeffort. The Anteaters fell to 9-15 on the season.

The Anteaters got two hits each from Klemm and first baseman Matt Falk.
