Bruin Swimming Places 11th at NCAA Championships

Auburn, AL - At the conclusion of the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships, held at the James E. Martin Aquatics Center in Auburn, AL, UCLA placed 11th, scoring 128 points. Host Auburn won the 2003 title, scoring 536 points over the three-day competition. Georgia placed second with 373 points, followed by USC in third with 284 points. Southern Methodist and Florida round out the top-five, scoring 281 and 277 points, respectively.

In the 1650 Free final, junior Jackie Lobdell placed 29th in 16:43.55. Junior Taylor Spivey placed 13th (1:58.15) in the 200 Back finals and junior Sara Platzer placed 10th in the 50 Free finals in 49.48. In the 200 Fly final, freshman Kim Vandenberg placed fifth (1:57.15) and junior Kristen Lewis was 12th (1:57.90). The 400 Free Relay team of Vandenberg, junior Malin Svahnstrom, sophomore Lindsey Smart and Platzer placed 10th in 3:19.77. Senior Regan Gosnell placed eighth on platform, scoring 396.90.

In the 200 Breast prelims, juniors Leslie Hovsepian and Brooke Winkler placed 36th (2:17.62) and 38th (2:17.99), respectively.
