RIVERSIDE, Calif. - -

Junior pitcher Monica Hoffman led the No. 20 Oregon State softball team to a doubleheader sweep of California-Riverside on Monday, giving OSU 11 innings in the circle while helping the Beavers improve to 22-11 on the year.

OSU jumped out to a 5-0 lead after three innings in the day's first game, and won by a final of 11-1 when the 8-run rule was invoked after a five-run sixth inning. The Beavers claimed a 7-1 victory in the second game.

Kelly Petersen and Shelly Prochaska led the Beavers offensively, each with a combined 4-for-7 Monday. Petersen had an RBI and three runs scored, and Prochaska contributed two RBI, three runs scored, and a double. Freshman Adrienne Alo was 3-for-7 with 2 RBI and a run scored.

Petersen's third home run of the year kick-started the Beavers in the opening game to give OSU a 1-0 lead after one frame. Sitting on a 6-0 lead the sixth, OSU put up five more runs on five hits and an error, highlighted by a two-RBI triple from Cara Maxey.

Hoffman pitched five shutout innings, allowing three hits and striking out eight, before Dena DuBois came on in relief.

Hoffman earned her second win of the day thanks to a six-inning, four-hit performance in which she gave up one run. Amy Klever pitched the final inning.

OSU tallied three runs in the second frame on four singles to open the inning, followed by two sacrifice flies.

OSU put the game away in the seventh with three more runs, keyed by a Steph Adams double to right center that brought in Prochaska and Petersen.

In all, Hoffman allowed seven hits and one run in 11 innings, striking out 11 and walking one to improve her record to 16-6.

The Beavers take to the field again on Wednesday when they square off in a double-header at San Diego State.
