Pac-10 Notes: After securing two of three wins over the third-ranked Sun Devils, STANFORD (2-1, 16-8) hosts WASHINGTON (0-0, 16-7), winners of nine of its last 10 games, in a three-game series at Sunken Diamond beginning Fri., March 28 ... The Huskies made their 2003 poll debut at No. 24 according to Baseball America and No. 30 according to Collegiate Baseball ... ARIZONA STATE (1-2, 32-5), ranked third in Baseball America's Top-25 poll, will take on USC (1-2, 13-13) in Los Angeles ... The Trojans also have a mid-week contest against Fresno State ... ARIZONA (2-1, 21-8) is coming off of its first series win over Southern California in 10 years and will face UCLA (0-0, 14-14) in a three-game series ... The Wildcats were ranked in all three polls this week at No. 21, No. 17 and No. 24 in Baseball America, Collegiate Baseball and Sports Weekly/ESPN, respectively ... CALIFORNIA (2-1, 15-11) hits the road this week, taking on Sacramento State on Tues., March 25 before facing OREGON STATE (0-0, 12-11) in Conference play at Goss Stadium at Coleman Field ... After claiming the final game of the series against the Golden Bears for its first Conference win, WASHINGTON STATE (1-2, 6-18) takes on UC Irvine beginning Fri., March 28 in a three-game series.
ARIZONA (2-1, 21-8)Last Week: vs. New Mexico W, 5-3; W, 8-3; vs. USC L, 12-2; W, 6-5; W, 16-3This Week: *UCLA
Arizona claimed its first series win over USC in 10 years, taking two of three from the Trojans by scores of 6-5 and 16-3, respectively ... UA also garnered two wins over New Mexico, its 18th and 19th consecutive wins over the Lobos, dating back to 1997 ... The Wildcats head to Los Angeles this weekend to face Conference opponent UCLA in a three-game series ... Junior Brian Anderson saw his school record single-season hit streak snapped at 26 games on Sat., March 22 as the center fielder went 0-for-3 from the plate ... Junior right-hander Richie Gardner notched his first career Pac-10 Pitcher of the Week honor as he made a pair of starts last week, going 2-0 with a 1.80 ERA ... Gardner struck out 17 batters in just 15 innings pitched, while giving up just three earned runs.
ARIZONA STATE (1-2, 32-5)Last Week: vs. Wichita State W, 9-2; L, 6-3; vs. Stanford W, 7-6 (11 inn.); L, 9-8 (10 inn.); L, 4-2This Week: *USC
No. 2 (Sports Weekly/ESPN) Arizona State dropped two of its last three games to Stanford over the weekend, by scores of 9-8 (11) and 4-2, respectively ... All three games were close contests with both Saturday's and Sunday's games going into extra innings, forcing the first back-to-back extra inning games for ASU since 2001 (Oklahoma and Oral Roberts) ... Shortstop Dustin Pedroia continued his hot hitting streak with a 9-for-20 (.450) performance last week ... Pedroia now has 24 multi-hit games and 23 doubles on the year ... Junior closer Ryan Schroyer gave up his first earned run of the year in the loss to Stanford on Sun., March 23 and is now 4-1 on the year with a 0.42 ERA with 26 strikeouts in 21.1 innings pitched ... The Sun Devils are now 21-4 at Packard Stadium this season.
CALIFORNIA (2-1, 15-11)Last Week: vs. Saint Mary's L, 6-2; vs. Washington State W, 8-3; W, 9-3; L, 5-4This Week: Sacramento State, *Oregon State
California improved its overall record to 15-11 on the 2003 season with two wins over Washington State last weekend ... The Bears took Friday and Saturday's games, before dropping the last of a three-game series to the Cougars, 5-4 ... The team now has a record of 10-4 at Evans Diamond ... After a mid-week game against Sacramento State, Cal will head north to face Conference opponent, Oregon State ... Sophomore reliever Jesse Ingram pitched well for the Bears in the WSU series, throwing a combined 4.0 innings in two appearances, allowing two hits, no runs, no walks with four strikeouts ... Ingram is currently 2-0 with a 3.65 ERA and a team-high four saves and 15 appearances ... He also has 21 strikeouts in 24.7 innings pitched.
OREGON STATE (0-0, 12-11)Last Week: vs. UCSB L, 5-4; W, 4-3; W, 6-4This Week: *California
After a hectic rain delay on Sat., March 22 that forced Oregon State and UC Santa Barbara to play three games in just over one day, the Beavers took one of two from UCSB in a doubleheader on Sunday, along with winning the final game of the series on Monday to bring their overall record to 12-11 on the season ... Oregon State will host California in its first Conference action on the year this weekend ... Junior outfielder Seth Pietsch leads the team with a .369 batting average in 23 games played thus far ... Pietsch also has a team-leading 38 hits, along with seven doubles, four triples, five home runs and 22 RBI ... OSU senior right-hander Stephen Copeland's consecutive scoreless inning streak was snapped at 16 when the Gauchos commanded a four-run sixth inning on March 24.

Stanford is ranked sixth, seventh and eighth by Baseball America, Collegiate Baseball and Sports Weekly/ESPN, respectively ... The Cardinal is coming off an impressive series that saw them claim two of three from one of the hottest teams in baseball, the Arizona State Sun Devils ... Stanford has won seven of its last 10 games and will face another hot team, the Washington Huskies in Conference action this weekend ... In Monday's rubber game, freshman lefty Mark Romanczuk pitched the first complete game of his career to run his record to 6-0, giving up just five hits and two runs while striking out five ... Senior Ryan Garko and junior Sam Fuld both tied career-highs in that same game, with four hits a piece ... Sophomore Danny Putham leads the Cardinal with a .377 batting average in 69 at bats ... Putnam also owns 26 hits, six doubles, four home runs and 19 RBI on the year.
UCLA (0-0, 14-14)Last Week: vs. Wichita State W, 9-7; W, 11-10This Week: Long Beach State, *Arizona
UCLA took two games from No. 29 Wichita State last week by slim margins of 9-7 and 11-10, respectively ... The team hit .361 over the two-game series and registered big first innings to lead them to victory ... The Bruins have another tough task ahead of them as they face No. 7 (CB) Long Beach State in a mid-week game before taking on 17th-ranked (CB) Arizona in a three-game homestand ... Senior lefty Mike Kunes owns a 4-1 record on the season ... Kunes also has a team-leading 35 strikeouts in 38.1 innings pitched, including a career-high nine strikeouts in four innings pitched on Sat., March 22 against Wichita State ... The team's batting average leader is Christian Lewis who is hitting .375 in eight games played.
USC (1-2, 13-13)Last Week: vs. San Diego W, 12-4; vs. Arizona W, 12-2; L, 6-5; L, 16-3This Week: Fresno State, *Arizona State
USC was a 12-2 winner over Arizona in the first of a three-game series, but dropped the next two by a combined 14 runs, as the Wildcats claimed the series for the first time since 1993 ... After a mid-week game against Fresno State, the Trojans will host Arizona State beginning Fri., March 28 ... Freshman catcher Jeff Clement earned his second Pac-10 Player of the Week honor with a 7-for-16 (.438) performance last week, including three home runs, a double and nine RBI ... Clement needs just one more home run to become the first freshman in USC history to hit 15 or more homers in a season ... Senior Travis McAndrews leads the team with a .330 batting average in 100 at bats ... McAndrews has 33 hits, including five doubles, one triple, three home runs and 16 runs batted in.
WASHINGTON (0-0, 16-7)Last Week: vs. UC Irvine W, 2-0; L, 8-3; W, 3-1This Week: Portland, *Stanford
Washington, winners of nine of its last 10 games, took the UC Irvine series with two wins on Fri., March 21 and Sun., March 23 by scores of 2-0 and 3-1, respectively ... The Huskies, currently ranked 24th in Baseball America's Top-25 poll, will have a tough start in Conference play, heading to Palo Alto, Calif., for a three-game series against No. 6 (CB) Stanford ... With Friday's 2-0 win at UC Irvine, Washington posted three straight shutouts ... The Huskies went 29 innings without allowing a run, and at one point, had allowed opponents to score in only one of 40 innings ... The Husky pitching staff has compiled a 2.72 ERA over a 13-game stretch, allowing only 84 hits in 116 innings while striking out 119 ... Washington closer Will Fenton has yet to allow a run over his seven outings ... The hard-throwing righty has surrendered only three hits and has struck out 16 in his 10.1 innings of work ... He has five saves and is 1-0.
WASHINGTON STATE (1-2, 6-18)Last Week: vs. Portland L, 9-5; vs. California L, 8-3, L, 9-3, W, 5-4This Week: UC Irvine
Washington State earned its sixth win on the season with a 5-4 decision over California last weekend in Berkeley ... After dropping the first two games by scores of 8-3 and 9-3 respectively, the Cougars rebounded to pick up their first Conference win on the year ... Reliever Aaron MacKenzie entered the game in the fifth inning for WSU and pitched a near-perfect four innings, giving up just one hit, while striking out five and walking only one Cal batter, to notch his first win on the season ... At one point, MacKenzie retired eight straight Bears ... Junior Jeremy Farrar had a pair of doubles to lead the Cougar offense ... Washington State will take a break from Conference action to face UC Irvine in a three-game series beginning Fri., March 28 in California.
